Getting Ready for the Holiday Photo Shoot!

The time has come upon us!  Here at Calyx, we’re getting ready to shoot our Holiday catalog for you – in July!  While awfully confusing for those involved, the process is great fun and we can’t wait to share our new products with you.

We’re very busy bees buzzing around gathering vases, ordering flowers, and prepping the photo studio as a winter wonderland. Inside, the smell of pine and sugar cookies are in the air – outside the smell of BBQ and fresh cut grass.  We have some great products up our sleeves and we know, come holiday season,   you’ll be dashing through the snow to get your new catalog!

Happy Parents Day!

Happy Monday Flower Lovers!  As you may or may not know, Parents Day is this Sunday!  A special day in July to honor both your mother and father for all of the wonderful things they’ve done for you and to thank them for bringing you into this world.  We love an excuse to send flowers and this seems like a pretty great one.  If you can’t be with your family this weekend, let Calyx send your love for you!

Atlanta Gift Show – Southern Shopping

The “High Design” Floor

Well I have wrapped up another successful buying and sourcing trip to AmericasMart in Atlanta where lots of great products were found. I saw some wonderful showrooms filled with designer vases and cachepots that I know will look absolutely exquisite when paired with an exclusive Calyx “look.”

The show was definitely busier this time than it has been the past five seasons. Hopefully it is a good indicator that the retail economy is on an upswing.

The color palette was across the board at the show. Blues are definitely trending but there was not a dominant color theme in the showrooms as I walked the floor after floor. There’s still a lot of sparkle and bling out there as well as an “earthy” feel to many products so it really runs the gamut. Holiday patterns and tones were vivid and strong.

On Friday, the temporaries open and I find myself swept away by the offerings in the High Design section. I also love to walk the Gourmet floor and taste the many samples the different vendors offer. This is how we were introduced to our current truffles and carmel supplier, Mary Ann’s Chocolates. One bite was pure bliss!

I look forward to the next show in 2014. I’ll catch the MARTA once again and head to downtown Atlanta, ready for more treasure hunting.

Inspired by Lemons

Lemon Wreath

Our newest preserved wreath features bright yellow lemons & more.

With the 4th of July holiday tomorrow it’s time to think about the day’s festive menu. With my new Lemon Wreath hanging on my kitchen door, I thought what a great inspiration! Tomorrow friends and family will be treated to scrumptious Lemon Coconut Bars and of course, getting to see my new wreath which is part of the Calyx Summer Collection.

Lemon Coconut Bars

Dough Ingredients

1 cup flour

¼ cup powdered sugar

½ cup butter or oleo

Mix and press into an 8×8 inch greased pan. Bake at 350° for 20 minutes.

Filling

2 eggs (beaten)

½ tsp salt

2 T. flour

½ tsp baking powder

1 cup sugar

1 cup coconut

2 T. lemon juice

Mix and pour on partially baked dough. Bake at 350° for 30 minutes. Sprinkle with powdered sugar and cut into bars. Enjoy!
