Getting Ready for the Holiday Photo Shoot!

Friday, July 26th, 2013

The time has come upon us!  Here at Calyx, we’re getting ready to shoot our Holiday catalog for you – in July!  While awfully confusing for those involved, the process is great fun and we can’t wait to share our new products with you.

We’re very busy bees buzzing around gathering vases, ordering flowers, and prepping the photo studio as a winter wonderland. Inside, the smell of pine and sugar cookies are in the air – outside the smell of BBQ and fresh cut grass.  We have some great products up our sleeves and we know, come holiday season,   you’ll be dashing through the snow to get your new catalog!

Stay tuned for pictures, Flower Lovers!

Happy Summer! What we love…

Monday, June 24th, 2013

Well, Flower Lovers, it’s officially Summer!  Here in Vermont, it seemed like a long road to get to the season of beach days and cookouts but it’s finally here.  We have the windows open and the sweet smells of the gardens wafting into our office – something in the air definitely changed and it is Summer!

We would like to know what is your favorite thing about summer? Is it the beach?  Is it having the kids home from school?  Is it the smell of sunscreen or perhaps the taste of fresh watermelon?  Let us know!  Also, what is your favorite summer bouquet?  If you had your choice what fresh flowers would you buy at the farmers market?  Do you prefer a DIY bouquet or one perfectly designed for you? At Calyx, we like to know what our customers like so that we can be inspired to create bouquets we know everyone will love!

This summer, we have several floral obsessions.  For the Fourth of July, we’re going gaga for the All American Orchid Bouquet.  We can see it on a beach wood table outside near sand dunes, the ocean within eyesight, adding a pop of color to a 4th of July picnic. It says ‘Cape Cod’ with a pinch of fun and a whole lot of class. We also can’t seem to get over Blue Heaven Hydrangeas – they’re perfect in a window in a cottage near the shore or on a bedside table so the first thing you see in the morning are these fresh and gorgeous flowers.   Mango Delight Callas in our funky bubble glass vase are the perfect statement to put on a dinner table for a summer eve’s dinner party where your guests eat at dusk and spend the rest of the night dancing beneath the stars.  The Calyx Enchantment Bouquet makes us think of hot summer days in the country, picking strawberries and making pies!  Lastly, we can’t get enough of Jewel Orchids.  These tropical and exotic beauties make us want to go for a swim in a clear pool with a pina colada in our hand!

OK, so now we’ve shared ours – it’s only fair for you to share yours!  Tell us what summer flowers you’re mooning over and we’d love to use your ideas!

Happy Summer to our Flower Lovers!

We did it. We joined Pinterest!

Today Calyx Flowers joined the growing community of people loving Pinterest. This online pinboard is a great way to  organize and share things that we love with our Flower Lovers and everyone else out there. Comment. Repin. Like. We’re sure to find inspiration and hopefully in turn, we will be an inspirational source for lots of people.

Our very first board was titled, “Summer Floral Chic” and we invite you to check it out at www.Pinterest/CalyxFlowers.com. It’s a sampling of our newest Summer floral obsessions to showcase, wear & visit. We found inspiration from our summer catalog of flowers, from the new jewelry line at J.Crew as well as the wonderful prints found at Lilly Pulitzer.

Tell us what you would like to see us share! What is your favorite floral inspiration? We want to know!

Calyx Flowers & Social Media

Hello Social Media, Hello New Conversations -

It’s time for Facebook and Twitter and The Flower Lover’s Blog to become part of our company’s core. It’s funny to reflect on the journey that has brought Calyx to the year 2010. Way back in 1988, the company was founded as the very first to ship flowers “in a box” direct from the growers. Our means of marketing – the catalog.

Today we still mail those beautiful catalogs to your home via the US Postal Service but we now email and tweet and talk to our fans on Facebook, oops I mean those who “Like” us. The fabulous part of it all is that we can gather inspiration from all these new areas and really get to know our customers. Case in point – it made my day to read on May 8th a post from a Calyx recipient thanking us for delivering beautiful Mother’s Day flowers from her babies. It’s our hope to keep these conversations going, expanding and becoming more inspirational!
